A phone dock that lives on the JL dash shelf and holds on without a single hole, screw or adhesive pad touching the vehicle.
Why it stays put
The shelf front edge is the anchor. A separate edge hook slides into a dovetail across the front of the base and drops over that edge, so the dock physically cannot travel forward - and two TPU pads under the base stop it moving anywhere else.
The one dimension that varies between trims, model years and dash mats is how far that edge drops. So it is not baked in: the kit includes three hooks - 10, 14 and 18 mm. Dry-fit them, keep the one that sits flush. Two strap slots through the base take a hook-and-loop strap if you would rather belt and braces it.
The cradle
- 25 degrees back from vertical - upright enough to read at a glance, laid back enough that the phone stays seated on washboard.
- 16 mm deep pocket and 90 mm between the arms: any phone made, in a case. Two pairs of width shims snug a narrower phone down to 66 mm.
- 34 mm gap in the lip for a charging cable, doubling as the finger slot for one-handed lifts.
- A 58 mm recess in the backplate takes a stick-on magnet ring, with 5 mm of solid plate behind it.
- A cable clip routes the lead down the back instead of across the shelf.
Printing
- The dock body prints on its base with no supports; the two pad pockets are 22 mm bridges 2 mm above the plate.
- The edge hooks print flat with the dovetail tongue upward - it widens by only 27 degrees, so the undercut is self-supporting.
- Print the grip pads in TPU 95A. They sit 1 mm proud of their recesses, which is where the grip comes from.
- Print in PETG or ASA, not PLA. A parked Jeep in summer sun will go past the softening point of PLA.
