About the game:

Tic Tac Toe is a very nice game… but it gets boring as soon as one or the two players start to understand the few possible combinations and winning start moves. Therefore, the starting player is also at a great advantage.

2D Tic Tac Toe renews the pleasure to play TicTacToe for people bored by the original Tic Tac Toe, or when one of the player is much better than the other one.

As in the original game, the goal is to align 3 pins within 3x3 grids. But as soon as a player aligns 3 pins, he/she scores the corresponding grid and mark it its own by placing a frame in his color around the scored grid.

Whites starts.

The objective is to align 3 scored 3x3 grids. The first to do so wins the game!

Game variants:

You have several ways to play 2D TicTact Toe:

1/ for casual games / small kids / beginners:

The players can play their move on any of the 9 3x3 TicTacToe grids. The opponent can answer on the same grid… or on any of the remaining 8 3x3 grid

2/ For more strategic games (see Ultimate TicTacToe video for illustration):

Players don’t have the freedom to play where they want. They have to play on the 3x3 grid which corresponds to the location where their opponent played last (not in the same grid).

So if you played on the lower left of a grid, your opponent will have to play somewhere on the lower left grid. If you played on the right position of a grid,  he will have to play on the right grid.

3/Trickier variant: same as 2, but when you’re being sent to a grid that has already been won, you will decide on which grid to go. (also illustrated in the video).

It makes the games shorter and much more tensed as sending someone to an already won grid is to give them an advantage, instead of delaying them or forcing them to send you where you want like it was in the previous variant.
