Sugargrin was the kind of toy no one remembered buying.

One spring morning, he was simply there — sitting on a shelf with his stitched pink fur, crooked ears, and that wide, impossible smile. He looked like something made for a child who loved candy, ribbons, and bedtime stories. Almost adorable.

Almost.

His button eye stayed still.

His other eye didn’t.

At first, Sugargrin only seemed mischievous. Small things went missing around the house: hair clips, keys, tiny notes, loose buttons, photographs taken from frames. Then they would reappear days later in strange places — under pillows, inside shoes, tucked neatly beside the bed as if returned by careful little hands.

No one ever saw him move.

But sometimes, late at night, people heard the soft tap… tap… tap of something hopping across the floor.

Children said Sugargrin liked to play games.

Not fun games.

Quiet games.

Games like “Don’t Blink” and “Guess Who’s Behind the Door.”

The strangest part was his smile. In daylight it looked sewn on, harmless and silly. But after midnight, it seemed wider. Sharper. More patient. As if Sugargrin knew something wonderful was about to happen — at least for him.

They say if you wake up and find him facing your bed, do not smile back.

Because Sugargrin collects happy things.

Laughter.

Secrets.

Imaginary friends.

And once he decides you’re fun enough to keep, he never really leaves your room again.
