3D Printer Print Bed
The 3D printer print bed, also known as the heated bed platform or print base plate, is a core flat component in FDM printers that supports the model and ensures proper adhesion of the first layer of filament.
I. Core Functions
Supports the model and ensures a flat bottom surface;
Heats up when powered on to reduce filament cooling and shrinkage, preventing warping and cracking;
Provides appropriate surface friction to ensure strong adhesion of the first layer, preventing displacement or delamination.
II. Common Mainstream Materials
Tempered glass print beds are smooth, rigid, easy to clean, and produce a glossy printed surface; however, their adhesion is relatively weak, making warping more likely, so glue or adhesive sheets are often required for support.
Spring steel flexible print plates (magnetic type) typically feature a PEI matte or textured coating on the surface, with a magnetic base that allows the plate to be bent. After cooling, the model can be gently pried off, eliminating the need for a scraper—making them the most commonly used option for home printers due to their durability and ease of maintenance.
