I. Basic Information
Classification: Insecta, Lepidoptera, Bombycidae; native to China, it is a highly domesticated economic insect renowned for its silk-spinning and cocoon-making abilities.
Morphology: Newly hatched larvae are dark brown and densely hairy, measuring about 2 mm; as they continuously feed on mulberry leaves, their body color turns white. During development, they undergo four molts and five instars; by the fifth instar, mature larvae can reach 6–7 cm in length, with a cylindrical body shape, three pairs of thoracic legs, four pairs of abdominal legs, and one pair of caudal legs.
