Bronze jue are among the most iconic bronze wine vessels in ancient China, flourishing primarily from the Shang Dynasty through the early Western Zhou and holding a pivotal role in ritual and sacrificial culture.

Bronze jue feature highly distinctive designs, typically comprising the following structural elements:

  1. Spout
The front end features a sharp, spout‑like pourer for dispensing wine.
  2. Tail
The rear end curves upward, resembling a bird’s tail, serving both functional and decorative purposes.
  3. Handle
Located on one side of the vessel body for easy gripping and handling.
  4. Three Legs
The base is supported by a tripod design, allowing the vessel to be placed directly over a fire for heating the wine.
  5. Columns
Short vertical columns rising along both sides of the vessel’s rim, used for securing ropes or aiding in operational tasks—while also carrying symbolic significance.
