The AIM-4D air-to-air missile, designated GAR-2B, was an upgraded variant of the AIM-4C and also featured a passive infrared seeker. This missile marked the first air-to-air missile in U.S. Air Force service capable of engaging in close‑range dogfight scenarios, and it was deployed to the Vietnam War aboard F-100 Super Sabre fighters.
