1. History
About 7 years ago I out grew my Media Server Case.
I didn't want to purchase a specific NAS, like a QNAP or Synology, or buy a big gamer type case. So, I built one out of two pieces of MDF, aluminium strips and some other small scrap wood.
All screwed together. 7 years it is still going strong running 10 SATA Drives, but I wanted to modernise. (3d print a new "modular" case).
The goal is if I want another HDD, I print another caddy. If I use a different motherboard, I can adapt the jigsaw pieces to fit it.
2. The New Server
This `Modular NAS Server thing`` is the dumping ground of what I am creating.
What have I made so far ?
[X]2.1 - Stackable (modular) HDD Caddies[ ]Rack Mounted (I have a server cabinet) (not yet done)[ ]ATX Motherboard Mount[ ]PSU Mount[ ]Rack Mount Adaptors and Other Supports
2.1 Stackable (modular) HDD Caddies
As the photo shows, I have printed my first 3 caddies.(Yellow was the first "new" version)
I wanted them to be "put together" with minimal screws. The puzzle pieces will come into play later when I make it rack mount able. For now, it is just stackable.
It is not perfect, but is meeting my need.
2.1.1 HDD Caddies - Yet to make
- Doors
- SATA BackPlane
- Rear Cooling Ducting
