The CL-1201 nuclear-powered aircraft boasts a length comparable to that of a heavy aircraft carrier, enabling it to carry a payload of roughly 5,440 tons and offering up to 2 million cubic feet of internal storage space.In the ideal configuration, the carrier would deploy 24 F-4 Phantom II fighters—11 mounted under each wing, with an additional 2 aircraft suspended directly beneath the fuselage. Naturally, all extra munitions and fuel carried by these aircraft would be stowed aboard the mothership. Moreover, in non-critical missions, the vessel can be operated efficiently by as few as 475 crew members; should expansion become necessary, the crew size could easily be increased to 800—a significant cost savings compared to any conventional aircraft carrier with equivalent displacement.
