BrailleLink is a carefully engineered product designed to improve the practical use of braille communication, mainly by providing a simple way to label everyday objects. BrailleLink consists of three main components: braille brackets (available in 3-unit and 7-unit sizes), 26 braille letters and an additional symbol that represents a capital letter for sentence starters, and an x-shaped connector that links braille brackets either underneath or on top of other braille brackets. Each braille letter slots into the units of the braille brackets to form words. For words longer than three letters, 7-unit brackets are designed, and for even longer words or full sentences, the braille brackets can be attached to each other using the lock and key model mechanisms at the ends. If shorter words are required, some units can be left blank. Each braille unit has a hexagonal-shaped hole at the back, which allows the alphabet letters to be seen. Each letter is rotated 180 degrees for braille illiterate, so when the braille chain is flipped, it can be read normally from left to right. The holes at the back also provide slots to join braille brackets that fit the x-connectors.  The main method of attaching these labels to surfaces is Blu Tack, which is easily available commercially; however, other attachment systems are being designed for better integration, as shown in the attachment section. The result is a labelling system for blind and visually impaired users, as well as for people who interact with these populations, to help identify everyday objects. In addition, it also serves as a learning aid for new braille learners.
