Trilobite Overview (Popular Science Edition)
Basic Introduction
Trilobites are ancient arthropods that lived during the Cambrian to Permian periods of the Paleozoic Era, spanning 250 to 500 million years ago. They were among the earliest thriving marine organisms on Earth and have since become completely extinct, leaving behind only fossils.
Origin of the name: Their bodies were divided longitudinally into left, central, and right lobes, hence the name “trilobite.”
