This 3D-printed bust depicts Fanny Cäcilie Mendelssohn Hensel, née Mendelssohn. It was inspired by her best-known portrait, painted in 1842 by Moritz Daniel Oppenheim.

A German composer and pianist, Fanny Hensel received a musical education comparable to that of her younger brother, Felix Mendelssohn. Despite her immense talent, nineteenth-century social conventions severely restricted her public career. Some of her early works were even published under her brother’s name before she eventually began releasing compositions under her own identity.

She composed more than four hundred works, including songs, piano pieces, chamber music, cantatas, and an orchestral overture. Her piano cycle Das Jahr is now regarded as one of her finest achievements. This bust pays tribute to a major Romantic composer who remained in her brother’s shadow for many years but is now increasingly celebrated for the richness of her own musical legacy.
