Tengwang Pavilion
Crane

The celestial crane is locked in a flight that will never touch the ground—its wings fully extended, their feathers rippling like waves imprinted by the wind in an instant. The gilded edges of each feather seem to whisper of the sheer power behind every beat of its wings. With its head lowered and neck tilted, its long beak points toward the base, as if gazing at the mirrored image of itself emerging from the soaring eaves of the Tengwang Pavilion. The pavilion behind it is not merely a backdrop—it is another set of skeletal forms:
the layered dougong brackets form curving, converging wings; the upturned eaves and flying corners are poised, frozen mid‑flight; and the spire atop the pagoda serves as an elongated beak. The silhouettes of the crane and the pavilion blend seamlessly within the interplay of light and shadow, as though they are but two manifestations of a single, shared soul.
