Hardware:

The only hardware needed for this beam dump is a steel spike. I made this myself from mild steel. (20mm length, 6mm diameter, 45 degree (ish) point angle).
Before turning the laser to full power, make sure that the beam hits the tip of the cone exactly. If it only hits the side, the laser will focus in a single area withing the trap.
Beam dump (beam stop, or beam trap) for 500mW continuous light or 10W when briefly pulsed for less than 50ms per second.
60mm height, 60mm width, 55mm depth

- Print this part from a black plastic such as ASA or PLA. With a 0.4mm nozzle, use at least 4 walls, no fibre reinforced materials.
- Print from a white ASA or nylon. I do not advise using PLA for this. No more than 3 walls, and make sure to use a low infill %. The aim of this white internal area is to diffuse the light and prevent concentration on one single spot. Press-fit with part “1.” but i suggest using CA glue too.
- The top and bottom surfaces are flat for easy mounting (60mm apart) with 5mm holes designed for m3 heatset inserts.
- 6mm diameter input hole
- Steel rod, 20mm length with end sanded down to 45 degree angle. Must be glued in place too. I suggest not making the tip too sharp. 6mm diameter
