The Three Buddhas of Wisdom

This sculptural composition offers a joyful and serene reinterpretation of the classic "See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil" motif — embodied here by three laughing Buddhas seated side by side in peaceful harmony.

Though carved from the same stone and sharing a similar posture, each figure expresses a distinct facet of universal wisdom:

The first Buddha, on the left, covers his eyes with both hands. A soft, knowing smile plays on his lips, suggesting a gaze turned inward. He invites us to look beyond illusion and distraction, encouraging inner vision over surface appearances.

The second, in the center, rests his hands over his mouth. His calm, gentle expression embodies mindful speech, compassionate listening, and the wisdom of silence. He reminds us that sometimes, the most powerful words are the ones we choose not to speak.

The third Buddha, on the right, covers his ears, yet his face is lit up with laughter — his mouth open in pure delight. He symbolizes the art of tuning out negativity, gossip, and the noise of the world in order to protect one’s inner peace and joy.

Together, they radiate positive energy. Their features are soft and rounded, filled with warmth and good humor. Their robes cascade fluidly over crossed legs, and each wears a simple beaded necklace — a nod to spiritual simplicity and unity.

From behind, the sculpture reveals their quiet unity: three near-identical forms with complementary gestures, carved in a way that reflects their interconnection. A powerful visual metaphor for the balance between perception, speech, and listening
