Round Longevity Pattern / Tuan Shou Motif

Chinese Description

The Round Longevity Pattern is one of the most iconic auspicious motifs in traditional Chinese decorative art. Centered around the character “Shou” (longevity), it is meticulously arranged within a circular (round) composition, hence its name, “Tuan Shou.” This motif is widely employed in porcelain, brocade, textiles, woodcarvings, paper cuttings, furniture, and architectural polychrome paintings, with its peak popularity during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
