Penelope is one of the most admired heroines of Greek mythology. Queen of Ithaca and wife of Odysseus, she has become the universal symbol of loyalty, patience, and wisdom. During her husband's twenty-year absence, she cleverly outwits the many suitors seeking her hand by weaving a funeral shroud during the day and secretly unraveling it each night, faithfully awaiting the return of the rightful king.
