Luo Shen

This design draws its inspiration from the ethereal grace of Luo Shen as depicted in “The Ode to Luo Shen” and the enchanting spirit of the Luo River: The flute is shaped like a jade dizi, with intricate wave patterns from the Luo River meticulously carved into its body, evoking the fluid, rippling rhythm of flowing water. A floral motif of Luo Shen is sculpted at the center of the flute, subtly referencing the ode’s imagery of “radiant as a lotus emerging from verdant waves,” seamlessly blending flower and instrument into a harmonious whole—much like Luo Shen gracefully stepping upon the waters, holding her flute as she sings. The choice of a purplish‑hued jade color echoes the delicate, otherworldly violet haze that drapes Luo Shen’s garments, while the overall design captures the tender elegance of “swift as a startled wild goose” from the ode—and the serene, otherworldly charm of the Water Goddess—into every curve and contour of the flute, giving birth to this celestial instrument.
