It earns its name because it closely follows any pair it spots, as if to keep them company. Its heart-shaped body is a symbol of love, and it is said that couples who encounter a Love Fish will vow to love each other forever. Due to its immense popularity among couples, it is often released into the swimming pools of hotels where honeymoon guests stay. Its charming heart-shaped form is so beloved that in some places there is even a tradition of giving Love Fish to one’s sweetheart. Legend has it that possessing a single Love Fish with its heart-shaped scales can help you find a romantic partner; at one point, this rumor led to rampant overfishing. When left alone, a solitary Love Fish becomes listless and filled with emptiness, making it an easy target for large-billed gulls to snatch away.
