This brushless electric motor model is one of a kind. It features low rolling resistance, high rotational speed, and, as a result, outstanding efficiency. This is a fully functional brushless DC motor, with its performance depending on the materials additionally implemented.

To construct the motor, you only need:

  • 12 neodymium magnets (dimensions: 10 mm height, 4 mm width, 3 mm thickness)
  • Enameled copper wire of any diameter. Recommended diameter: 0.1 mm to 0.4 mm
  • 2 bearings, depending on the motor variant:
    • 8 mm outer diameter / 4 mm inner diameter
    • 6 mm outer diameter / 3 mm inner diameter
The smaller diameter also serves as the motor mounting diameter.

Important: The motor’s performance and thermal efficiency depend on the wire diameter and the number of turns per coil! I used a 0.4 mm wire and wound 14 turns per coil on each of the 9 arms. The motor runs, but it overheats and shuts down after about 10 seconds. To improve efficiency, increase the motor’s resistance by reducing the wire diameter and increasing its length.

A winding diagram is included in the image. There are two valid winding methods, differing only in efficiency.

Every brushless motor requires:

  • ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) to function properly
  • A power source
  • A PWM signal source (needed for the ESC to regulate motor speed; a simple servo tester should work)
