This 3D-printable device is for the Assistive Technology Challenge.

When I read about that challenge, I thought that I need to take part in that challenge and design something that is useful for several people.

For a lot of people with disabilities or elderly people it is difficult to do „easy“ things like getting dressed, without the help of others. Many people don’t even think how hard it can be to get on your socks, if you can’t get down to your feet. I first recognized that, when I visited my grandma. She can still do it herself, but it is very difficult, especially as she is ill right now and doesn’t feel that well. But on the other hand she also doesn’t want help (it is also a part of freedom, if you can get dressed yourself and also when you want)

I designed the Sockinator to help people to put on their socks or stockings themselves or for their day keepers to make it easier. Right now I have only one size, but I planned to make more versions, so it fits for everyone. If you have additional suggestions on how I could improve the Sockinator, feel free to send them to me.

You can adjust the angle of the rod and use the device in two ways.

  1. You have the rod on the right side: You put the sock inside the round part and pull the inside around the walls, so the sock is wide open and you can put your foot through it.
  2. You have the rod on the left side: You just put the sock around the part. Like that the device just opens the sock.

You can try both ways and see what works best for you…

To assemble the device you need:

1x M4 hex head screw min 20mm
1x M4 hex nut
1x part 1
1x part 2
4x part 3
1x part 4
