Things to Look For on a Benchy Print

1. Hull Surface (Sides of the Boat)

  • Should be smooth and consistent
  • Look for layer lines, ripples, or ghosting
  • Roughness may indicate vibration, speed, or belt issues

2. Overhangs & Roof

  • The roof and curved bow test overhang performance
  • Drooping or sagging suggests insufficient cooling or temperature too high

3. Windows & Door Frames

  • Should be clean and sharp
  • Blobby edges may mean over-extrusion
  • Gaps or thin walls may indicate under-extrusion

4. Chimney (Smoke Stack)

  • Tests fine detail and cooling
  • Should be round and clean
  • Melting or deformation suggests poor cooling or excessive heat

5. Text on the Back ("3DBenchy")

  • Should be legible and crisp
  • Blurred text indicates poor resolution or motion issues

6. Stringing Between Structures

  • Look inside windows and around the cabin
  • Stringing suggests temperature too high or retraction needs tuning

7. First Layer & Bottom Hull

  • The bottom should be flat and clean
  • Warping or elephant’s foot indicates bed temp or leveling issues

8. Bridging (Across Open Areas)

  • The cabin roof spans open space—this tests bridging
  • Sagging bridges suggest cooling or speed problems

9. Seam & Layer Consistency

  • Look for a visible vertical seam
  • Uneven layers suggest inconsistent extrusion or Z-axis issues
