The Vanishing Venus

skillfully merges the vase with the figure of Venus,

concealing the graceful contours of Venus’s body within the intricate interstices of the vase—much like beautiful blossoms nestled inside a vase,

yet not every angle reveals its full beauty, just as flowers do not always bloom in radiant splendor at every moment;

only at specific moments and from particular vantage points can it be truly seen, appreciated, and understood.

As Rousseau once said: The world is not lacking in beauty—it simply lacks eyes that are keen enough to perceive it.

This work uses spatial form to metaphorically evoke time, reflecting on human thought and contemplation,

while also serving as a testament to the artist’s creative mindset: though most of the time our work may remain obscure or even misunderstood by the wider world, so be it.

Others may laugh at my eccentricity; I, in turn, laugh at their inability to see through—to glimpse the tombs of legendary heroes in Wuling, where no flowers bloom and no wine flows, yet the land is tilled with nothing but a hoe.
