A little magic for your next payment.

I wanted to make a card holder that looked like something straight out of the Marauder's Map, so I designed this payment wand with a wand tapping directly onto the map. The map features a castle, the Whomping Willow, little footprints across the map, the Latin words "Itinerarium Maraudentium", and the classic phrase "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."

The wand is part of the map assembly, with the tip connected to the map while the base of the handle disconnects. This allows you to insert and remove a payment card while keeping the wand and map together as one functional piece.

The wand handle has a comfortable, hand-fitting base that makes it fun to hold and adds to the magical feel of the design.

Card Fit
Inside the card slot are four small retention bumps that help keep the card securely in place. Because card thickness can vary, I recommend trimming the tips of these bumps to fine-tune the fit for the card you plan to use.

Start by removing only a little material at a time. It is much easier to make the fit looser than it is to make it tighter again.

Multi-Color Printing
The Marauder's Map is designed around five colors, but you don't need five colors to make it look good.

It can easily be printed in one, two, three, or five colors, depending on your setup and how much color separation you want.

Personally, I like three or five colors. With three colors, you can give the map its own color, the wand its own color, and the lettering another color. Five colors lets you add even more detail to the map, including the footprints and Whomping Willow, and really make the design pop.

Design Notes
There is also a portion of the wand base designed with another version of this project in mind. That version will incorporate electronics and additional functionality, but the parts alone are around $30 USD, so I decided to keep this version low-tech and accessible.

The result is a simple, fully functional payment wand that looks magical without requiring expensive electronics.

Print Notes

• Use the supplied print profile for the best results.
• The card retention bumps may need minor trimming depending on the thickness of the card you intend to use.
• Trim the bumps gradually and test the card fit as you go.
• Three or five colors are my preferred options, but the design also works well with fewer colors.
• Make sure the wand base can separate cleanly before inserting a card.
• A small amount of cleanup may be needed around the card slot and connecting areas.

Support: The design requires very little support, keeping cleanup and wasted filament to a minimum.
