This is a replica of the ancient Chinese compass, and it is fully functional. I used 20 magnets, each 5 mm in diameter and 2.5 mm high. If you have other 5-mm magnets, you can arrange them in two rows as long as the total height does not exceed 26 mm. If you need to adjust the magnet diameter, simply modify the diameters of the two cylindrical negative parts in my model.
For printing the base plate, I added two modifiers: one flattens the central section, and the other reduces the top-layer line width to 0.3 mm. It’s best not to tweak these modifiers, as they ensure a flawless print. In addition, I employed a layer-by-layer color-changing technique, assigning different colors to the top text layer; this approach works even without an Automatic Material Switching (AMS) system.
