Ultralight Desktop Wind Spinner – Low-Friction Design
Bring a touch of kinetic art to your desk! This wind spinner is engineered for maximum sensitivity, allowing it to catch even the lightest breeze from a nearby fan or window. By utilizing the natural properties of 3D-printed PLA, this model achieves a beautiful, organic aesthetic without the need for complex assembly.
Key Features
- Low-Friction Cone Pivot: The center column features a precision-tapered cone mount. By minimizing the contact area to a single point, the spinner achieves incredible "start-up" speeds—it will spin with just a light breath!
- Naturally Bending Blades: The blades are designed at a specific 0.8mm thickness. This allows the PLA to flex naturally into an aerodynamic curve, creating a sleek, twisted look that looks stunning in motion.
- Fully Customizable: The hub is designed to hold up to 3 blades per section. Mix and match colors to create your own patterns or gradients!
Print Settings & Recommendations
- Blade Material: PLA (Recommended for the perfect balance of stiffness and flex).
- Wall Loops: 2 (Ensure your thin walls are solid for durability).
- Layer Height: 0.2mm works great, but 0.16mm will make the pivot cone even smoother.
- Assembly Tip: Simply drop the spinner assembly onto the base cone. For maximum "infinite spin" performance, ensure the tip of the cone is free of any tiny wisps or blobs. A tiny drop of dry lubricant or light oil on the tip can further reduce friction, though it isn't required!
Desktop Ready
Unlike large outdoor spinners, this "Desktop Style" version is scaled to fit perfectly in your workspace. It’s a great way to visualize airflow or just act as a satisfying kinetic fidget for your desk.

Assembly -
Each section can have up to 3 blades
The top blade holder goes into the Fan Center first and then you flip it over.
Careful to make sure the Fan Blade Holder is going in the correct orientation.
You can this for all of the blades now.

Now attach the other blades to the second blade holder BEFORE putting the Blade holder on the Fan Center shaft.

This end of the shaft has a twist style mechanism that will be used. The force of the blades trying to straighten out will keep this Blade Holder in place.
You will need to push the Blade Holder Down through the shaft and then twist it slightly until it stays in place due to the force of the blades trying to straighten out.

To remove/replace/change the blades, just push this back (down) and slightly twist it and it should be able to come back out.
