🐦 Introducing the Anti-Waste Feeding Box for Small Birds
This 3D‑printed feeding box is specially designed for small birds such as parrots and finches, effectively minimizing food spillage when birds peck at their feed.
💡 Inspiration Behind the Design
During routine bird care, we noticed that birds tend to fling and scatter their food with their beaks while eating, resulting in significant waste and a messy cage floor. To address this issue, we developed a feeding box featuring an internal guiding mechanism: food slides slowly down a curved channel into the feeding port, ensuring easy access while drastically reducing food loss.
🖨️ Printing Specifications
- Material: PLA or PETG is recommended—PLA is easier to print, while PETG offers superior durability and water resistance.
- Layer Height: 0.2 mm, balancing precision with printing speed.
- Infill: 20%–30%, providing adequate structural integrity.
- Temperature Settings: For PLA, set the nozzle at 200–220°C and the heated bed at 60°C; for PETG, use a nozzle temperature of 220–240°C and a heated bed at 80°C.
- No Supports Required: All structural elements are self‑supporting, eliminating the need for additional support structures.
- Separate Top Cover Printing: The top cover is printed separately from the main body for easier assembly after printing.
🔧 Assembly Instructions
1. Print the components: the main body of the feeding box, the top cover, and the internal guiding plate.
2. Clean the printed parts: Remove any print supports (this design doesn’t require supports) and trim off excess material to ensure smooth surfaces on all components.
4. Attach the Top Cover: Connect the top cover to the main body using the hinge mechanism—snap‑locks printed directly onto both the box and the lid—and test the opening and closing action to confirm smooth operation.
5. Load the Food: Open the top cover, pour in the bird food, and watch as the food gently slides down the guiding plate into the feeding port, ready for the birds to peck at.
6. Secure the Feeding Box: Use the cable tie holes pre‑installed on the box body to fasten the feeding box securely to the bird cage.
