The Tiger Hill Pagoda in Suzhou is an octagonal, timber‑style tower with a brick core and wooden eaves, comprising seven stories and standing 48.2 meters tall. The pagoda’s structure is divided into three main sections: the outer wall, the recessed corridor, and the central core. As a quintessential example of multi‑story brick and stone towers in the Jiangnan region during the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties period—featuring a distinctive timber‑style architectural design—the Tiger Hill Pagoda ranks among the earliest surviving examples of this architectural style in Jiangnan. It embodies the formal characteristics of early timber‑imitating brick and stone towers, showcasing a unique Jiangnan-style timber‑resembling pagoda design that serves as a living fossil in the evolutionary history of Jiangnan’s pavilion‑style towers.
