These parts as a whole are designed so that you can make your own desk organizer. You may print however many you want of each module and connect them to put all your writing utensils and other items in one place. Each module is made to hold different things in different fashions, so the way you put your desk organizer together depends on who you are and what you have on your desk.
What gave me the most trouble was designing a mechanism to keep the trays and shelves in their respective modules when slid in. I never really designed anything that slides in that manner that tries to stay in place when in a certain position, so it gave me some trouble at first. I eventually came up with ways to do that, but I don't feel like the solution is optimal.
If I could redesign this again, I would probably adjust the tolerances I made for the parts of the modules that connect them. I feel like I made too big of gaps in certain places, while I had too small of gaps in others. I would also try to spend more time on the sliding mechanisms for the shelves and trays. If I had more time to think about it, I would probably also add more modules.
The modular nature of this design is probably suited towards 3D printing. You only need to print the modules that you want, and you can make however big or small of a desk organizer as you want. If you want to add on to your desk organizer with more modules that don't exist yet, I designed this so that you can easily do so given the dimensions of the hexagon and dovetail joints.
