High-Power Handheld BLDC Fan 💹

This is a compact handheld fan powered by a brushless motor. It can move a surprising amount of air—when I first turned it on, papers on a desk at the other end of the room started flying around! 😄

My setup uses a 2S LiPo battery, a 20A Skywalker ESC, and a basic servo tester for smooth speed control. In this configuration, the fan reaches approximately 100 W. With a suitable 3S setup, it can potentially reach up to 300 W, depending on the motor, propeller, and electronics used. ⚡

The body includes space for the ESC, battery, wiring, and an optional wattmeter. A removable honeycomb cover helps protect the propeller while keeping airflow restriction low.

Required parts 🔧

  • BLDC motor with M3 mounting holes spaced 16 mm apart

  • Compatible propeller

  • ESC—I used a 20A Skywalker with my 2S setup

  • 2S LiPo battery

  • Basic servo tester

  • Approximately 16 × M3 heat-set inserts, 6 mm long

  • M3 × 12 mm screws—this length works for all mounting points

  • Filament—PETG, ABS, or ASA recommended

  • Suitable connectors and wiring

  • Optional wattmeter

  • 150mm or smaller propeller 

Servo tester enclosure

The included servo tester enclosure works perfectly with this fan and makes the controller much easier and more comfortable to use. It is also available separately on my profile, but I have included it here for convenience. Both heat-set-insert and insert-free versions are provided. 👍

Printing and assembly đŸ–šïž

Recommended starting settings are a 0.2 mm layer height, 3–4 walls, and 20–30% infill. Install the M3 heat-set inserts, mount the motor and handle, arrange the electronics inside the body, and secure the protective cover before testing.

Safety ⚠

This fan can be extremely powerful. Always use the protective cover and keep fingers, hair, and loose objects away from the propeller. Make sure the motor, ESC, propeller, and battery are compatible.

A setup approaching 300 W requires a suitably rated ESC, wiring, and connectors—the listed 20A ESC may not be sufficient for every 3S configuration.
