Magnetic Pill Reminder – Modular Slot-In Tracker
Never wonder "Did I take my meds?" again. This 3D-printed tracker uses a tactile magnetic sliding pin to help you keep track of your daily doses. Designed specifically for standard medication bottles (like Metformin for diabetes), but highly versatile.
How it works:
The sleeve attaches to your pill bottle using standard rubber bands. The internal pin features 4 magnetic positions, allowing you to track multiple doses throughout the day (e.g., Morning, Lunch, Afternoon, Evening). The magnetic "click" provides satisfying feedback..
Technical Specifications:
- Dimensions: 50mm height, only 11mm protrusion from the bottle.
- Compatibility: Optimized for 66.5mm diameter bottles. While the curved back is designed for this size, it remains adaptable for many bottle sizes (though it may not sit perfectly flush on significantly smaller or larger bottles).
- Hardware needed:
- 2x Neodymium magnets (5x3mm or up to 5x5mm). N52 is recommended for the best "snap," but N35 works well.
- 1x Magnetic strip/pin (approx. 7x1.7mm) or small magnet points for the slider.
- Standard rubber bands for mounting.
Print Settings (Tested on Elegoo Centauri Carbon):
- Layer Height: 0.20mm (0.12mm–0.15mm for a finer finish).
- Wall Loops: 5 (for durability around the hooks).
- Supports: Tree supports recommended for the hooks.
- Adhesion: No brim/raft/skirt needed if you use tree supports.
- Orientation:
- Sleeve: Print upright (pin-hole facing up).
- Pin: Print lying down on its thinnest side (handles bridges/overhangs well).
Assembly Tips:
- Polarity Check: Before gluing magnets, slide the pin into the sleeve to find the orientation that "grabs" the best.
- Custom Marking: Since magnetic strips are rarely cut exactly the same, use a permanent marker or paint to label your dose positions (M, E, 1, 2, etc.) on the pin once the magnets are set.
- Customization & Weight: You can remix the top of the pin with flags or signs, but keep it lightweight. If the pin becomes too heavy, the magnets may struggle to hold it. Use N52 magnets if you plan on adding larger toppers. Or you can edit the STL to use a thinner wall between the hole and the magnets. I also think you can make your own pin with for example 6x2mm magnets (use at least 2) instead of the magnetic strip
- Finishing: Use a hobby knife/scalpel to clean up any sharp edges on the hooks to prevent the rubber bands from snapping.
