As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, I’ve created several models of mooncakes that were a common sight in our childhoods here in Henan. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful family reunion and all the best in life.

Mooncakes—also known as “moon cakes,” “harvest cakes,” “reunion cakes,” and more—are one of China’s most cherished traditional delicacies. Originally, mooncakes were offered as sacrifices to honor the Moon God.

The practice of “sacrificing to the moon” is an ancient custom deeply rooted in Chinese culture, reflecting the early ancestors’ reverence for the “moon god.” Whether it’s enjoying mooncakes while admiring the full moon or sharing them with family and friends, these traditions have become an integral part of the Mid-Autumn Festival across both northern and southern China. Mooncakes symbolize unity and togetherness, serving as both festive treats and meaningful gifts to express love and gratitude.

I opted to use copper‑colored PETG filament for printing, which delivers a more authentic, real‑world appearance reminiscent of traditional mooncakes. Depending on your preferences and project requirements, you can easily select different colors during the printing process.
