„Project Bathroom” Part 1 – Towel rack with shelf.

The goal is to make all holes drilled by previous owner of my flat in the bathroom walls usefull.

I had two holes near my mirror. Probably some small bathroom cabinet was previously there. I don’t really needed cabinet. What was really missing was a towel rack near the sink! OK, but the towel is 50cm x 90cm and the holes in the wall were too high and just 44cm apart… That sounds like a challenge! ;) I need to get the level as low as possible and spread the sides of my towel rack to get at least 51cm between them. Well, that also give me a space to make some shelf, great! That was a plan and what you see here is the execution of it :)

IMPORTANT!!! My design will require a printer with at least 30cm in X or Y direction. Only big printers this time.

What do you need to make this model?

1. At least 750g of filament in desired color. Preferably PETG or ABS/ASA for strength and longevity.

2. Aluminium tubes/pipes. I love them, I use them often in my designs. Strong, cheap, easy available on eBay, Amazon and in local DIY shops.

 - 3 peaces of 12mm diameter, 1mm thick wall pipes/tubes – length 53.8 - 54cm. I suggest to buy 2m long one, as in my local DIY shop 1m long cost around 4 Euro and 2m long just 1 Euro more!

- 1 peace of 20mm diameter, 1mm wall thick pipe/tube – length 53.8 – 54cm.

IMPORTANT! I failed with one print because 12.0mm in diameter pipe was in fact 12.1mm. I don’t know what kind of accuracy your pipes will be so I made holes slightly bigger. Connection might be loose for you. Solution in point 4.

3. Two rawlplugs to mount this towel rack. If you decide to make same as mine, with 51cm for the towel, the distance between rawlplugs may be from 43 to 49cm. Finish the model and then measure twice :)

4. Something to secure aluminium pipes in the rack main body. I made 4.5mm holes to secure 3 out of 4 pipes and used headless allen style M5x5mm screws. You may see them in one of the pictures. I strongly recommend this method. If not, use standard screws and cut them after or glue te pipes using epoxy glue. You may inject the glue trough the holes.

How to print this model.

Nothing special here. I used 0.6mm nozzle and 0.3mm layer height to speed up the process. 750g of filament is not a small job :)I posted 4 types of shelfs. On the pictures you see „Option 1” with no sides. Don’t worry, small items will not fall down as the bottom of the shelfs is between the pipes not above it. See the pictures. Use supports (I used standard one) for shelf "over the pipe/tube" part.
If you prefer shelf with sides there are 3 options to choose from. Be carefull with „Open Heneycomb”. My Bambu Lab A1 Mini failed catastrophically trying to print honeycomb patern vertically. Make sure your printer is capable of printing this.

All shelf parts are 17cm in lenght. Print them 3 times to get 51cm. If you want longer towel rack use multiplication of 17cm.

Thats it! :) I hope you will enjoy your new towel rack! Any feedback welcome. Write a message or a comment if you have any problems with the model. I’ll try to help.

If you like it and you want to give it thumbs up, please also consider downloading it. It cost you just one additional click and it’s very important to me. Also check my other models, maybe you will find something interesting :) Thank you!

Happy printing! :)
