The UK’s Sea Eagle anti‑ship missile is a day‑and‑night, short‑range anti‑ship weapon system developed by the UK, primarily designed to engage small to medium-sized surface vessels. It comes in both helicopter‑launched and ship‑based variants. The missile employs semi‑active radar guidance and a high‑penetration, fragmentation warhead. The helicopter‑launched version entered service with the Royal Navy in 1981, while the ship‑based variant became the Royal Navy’s main short‑range anti‑ship weapon, specifically tailored to counter the threat posed by small, fast craft. The helicopter‑launched variant saw action in the Falklands War and the Gulf War, where it was used to launch 8 and 26 missiles, respectively, sinking multiple enemy ships.
