This is a chip fan for an ER20 Collet Nut

Chip fans are mounted on the spindle or on the tool being used, and when rotating (clockwise in this case), cause air to be blown down onto the workpiece - providing cooling and blowing away chips as they are created.

In the act of blowing air down onto the workpiece, the air forces on the fan blades push the chip fan up against the collet nut, keeping it where it should be. Having said this, a firm push fit is still desirable.

I have this one mounted on my 2.2KW Water Cooled Chinese spindle, as found in eBay. I have run it at 10,000 RPM and the air moved is prodigious - no need to blow compressed air anymore.

Please post your makes to show me how you went with it.... Very interested to hear how it worked for you on your machines, and if anyone has scaled it to work with other ER collets.

Let me know if you want another version for a different collet - the design is parametric so I can modify quite easily.

DISCLAIMER:

Given the RPM these spin at you need to be extremely careful with your slicing, printing and material used, as any significant imbalance in the fan may cause it to tear itself to pieces. I used a polycarbonate sheet to mitigate the effects of this when testing.

Any and all use of this model will be at the users risk. I take no responsibility for any loss or injury encountered by users of this model

Having said all of this, I have introduced a number of features to the model to increase safety, such as fillets everywhere, thick rings on the outside and inside.
