The loom boasts a meticulously crafted and highly precise structure, embodying the quintessential characteristics of traditional hand‑weaving mechanisms. At its core lies a sturdy square wooden frame, which serves as the skeletal backbone of the entire machine. The front of the frame supports a horizontal loom table, equipped with a shuttle that can move back and forth, used to neatly arrange the weft yarns and tightly compact the woven fabric. At the rear, a horizontally positioned warp beam facilitates the winding and unwinding of the warp threads.
Perhaps the most striking feature is the towering “jacquard mechanism” (also known as the “flower tower”), composed of multiple layers of parallel crossbeams. These beams are stacked in a clear, layered configuration, suggesting that this loom may have been capable of producing fabrics adorned with simple patterns by selectively lifting different warp threads. The model features no superfluous ornamentation; every timber strip and every mortise‑and‑tenon joint is precisely engineered to fulfill its functional purpose, reflecting the ancient artisans’ wisdom that “structure is itself a form of beauty.”
