  • Traditional scrapers often run into issues such as scratching the aquarium glass—but 3D‑printed scrapers sidestep these problems entirely. What’s more, they’re incredibly affordable, allowing you to swap out the scraper blade at any time.

    • Glass Aquariums: You can use metal blades (such as razor blades), but proceed with extreme care.
    • Acrylic (Plexiglass/PMMA) Aquariums: Under no circumstances should you use metal blades or sponges containing hard particles; instead, opt for plastic blades or a dedicated acrylic algae scraper pad, as using anything else can easily lead to unsightly scratches.
  • Avoid Sand Particles: When operating magnetic algae scrapers or manual scraper blades, never allow the blade or magnetic brush to come into contact with sand or substrate particles at the bottom of the tank. If even the tiniest grains become trapped between the blade and the glass, they’ll act like abrasive grit, leaving permanent scratches on the glass surface.
  • Beware of Sealant: Whether using a manual scraper blade or a magnetic algae scraper, always take care to avoid scraping the silicone sealant along the tank’s edges and corners. Prolonged scraping can damage the sealant, increasing the risk of leaks over time.
  • Replace Regularly: Blades and sponges wear down or accumulate significant algae buildup over time; to maintain optimal cleaning performance and hygiene, be sure to replace them on a regular schedule.
