1. A closed cylindrical structure was generated using an open‑source algorithm named “Lizard,” which produces a finite element structural mesh.

2. The base, constructed based on this finite element mesh, did not meet the print‑ready requirements as is. Therefore, we sealed off certain holes in the base while still ensuring it could securely store small objects.

3. The mesh lines were used to generate interconnected circular tubes with smoothly rounded edges—reminiscent of the webbed feet found in certain animals.

4. The result is a parametric pen holder featuring a cylindrical finite element mesh.

Inspired by the “Lizard” algorithm, this reptile has long been known in classical Chinese literature by the elegant appellation “shou gong,” meaning “lizard that guards palaces”—a creature capable of scaling walls and traversing rooftops, symbolizing protection and safeguarding of one’s home or domain:

① Protection and warding off evil

② Loyalty and guardianship

③ Wealth and good fortune

④ Harmony with nature and ecological balance

⑤ Physical and mental well‑being, along with longevity

However, I didn’t want to name it “Shou Gong,” as that term tends to evoke images of lizards… In the Book of Han, Biography of Dongfang Shuo, lizards are described as resembling dragons yet lacking horns, and as akin to snakes yet possessing legs—leading to the alternative term “hornless dragon,” though that doesn’t quite sound as appealing. So we simply called it “Coronosaur,” lending it a sense of mystery reminiscent of the ancient mythical beasts from the Classic of Mountains and Seas. With its mesh structure echoing the form of a nest, we named it “Coronosaur’s Nest”.
