filament support

This project was born out of the need to optimize filament routing on the Elegoo Centauri Carbon when using an external dryer (Dry Box).
The Problem
In the factory default configuration, the angle at which the filament approaches the sensor can become too acute or misaligned if the filament spool is placed inside a dryer positioned alongside or behind the printer. This leads to unnecessary friction, potential filament skipping, or false alarms triggered by the filament-end sensor.
The Solution
The bracket is designed to reposition and tilt the original sensor, ensuring perfect alignment between the dryer’s outlet and the sensor’s inlet.
- Linear Path: Drastically reduces mechanical resistance on the filament.
- Stability: The reinforced bracket design effectively dampens sensor vibrations during high‑speed prints—typical for the Centauri Carbon.
- Integration: The bracket mounts using existing mounting points (or with double-sided tape/screws, depending on the variant), maintaining a clean, professional aesthetic.
Technical Printing Details
- Recommended Material: PLA+ (chosen for its excellent interlayer adhesion and superior mechanical strength compared to standard PLA).
- Printer Used: Elegoo Centauri Carbon.
- Layer Height: 0.2 mm—a great balance between print speed and structural integrity.
- Infill: 20–30% (Gyroid or Grid infill patterns are recommended for enhanced structural rigidity).
- Supports: Not required (when properly oriented on the build plate).
Additional Notes
This component is essential for anyone printing technical materials—such as PETG, Nylon, or TPU—that must remain in the dryer throughout the entire printing process, ensuring consistent extrusion flow.
