When I set out to create a calendar in the style of traditional Chinese architecture, the first reference that came to mind was the architectural aesthetic of the Xianzhou “Luofu” from the game “Star Rail.”
The architecture of Xianzhou “Luofu” is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese design while simultaneously exuding a sci-fi, futuristic vibe—and it even carries a distinct “cultivation” theme.
In terms of form, my vision for the calendar is a “half-pavilion.”
The half-pavilion is a design element in traditional Chinese gardens that has always fascinated me.
As the name suggests, a half-pavilion can directly connect with flat surfaces such as corridors and walls, creating a flexible spatial configuration that is not confined by the rigid boundaries of a conventional pavilion.
A half-pavilion can serve as a restful, scenic spot just like a regular pavilion, but it can also function as a versatile entrance to different courtyard spaces.
In my envisioned scene, each day of the new year would gradually unfold within this “half-pavilion,”
like a moment of unexpected beauty after a period of uncertainty—no matter where you are at that very instant, you can begin a brand-new chapter!
