Disclaimer: Both the monitor stand and the angle-limiting bracket were designed using my own laptop as the reference! They are not universally compatible with all laptops, so I’ve also uploaded the SolidWorks project file and the STL file. My main goal is to share a design concept—though it may be rather rough around the edges. Those with the necessary skills are welcome to tweak the parameters themselves.
The monitor stand is meant to be slipped over the monitor. I noticed that my monitor’s swivel mechanism has fairly strong damping, so when I’m not using a secondary display, I can simply slide the monitor into the slot on the back of the stand. I chose an aluminum-framed monitor because it’s very lightweight, which inspired this idea.
After installing the monitor stand, I found that even the slightest breeze would cause the monitor to sway back and forth, which made me a bit uneasy. So I designed an additional angle-limiting bracket. While the stress concentration point isn’t ideal, it does provide some degree of angular restraint, and in my experience, it works well enough for everyday use.
