The narwhal is a small toothed whale inhabiting Arctic waters. Its most distinctive feature is the long, spiraled tusk extending from the male’s upper jaw, resembling a horn. With smooth skin and no dorsal fin, it excels at deep diving and feeds on deep-sea fish, shrimp, and cephalopods. Narwhals live in groups and exhibit exceptional cold tolerance. The tusk is not used as a weapon but rather for communication and sensing changes in the marine environment. Due to climate change and hunting pressures, their population has declined. As a protected marine species, only limited traditional hunting by Arctic indigenous peoples is permitted under strict regulations.

Narwhals are small toothed whales living in Arctic waters. Males grow a long spiral tusk from the upper jaw, which looks like a horn. They have smooth skin without dorsal fins and are good at deep diving, feeding on deep-sea fish and squids. They live in groups and can withstand frigid temperatures. The tusk is not a weapon, mainly used for communication and sensing seawater changes. Affected by global warming and hunting, their populations decline. They are protected marine creatures, and only limited traditional hunting by Arctic natives is allowed under strict control
