  • Mandarin Duck

  • Regular octagon

The mandarin duck, as an important symbol in traditional Chinese culture, is often imbued with profound meanings and emotional connotations. In most contexts, mandarin ducks are depicted in pairs, representing steadfast love, harmonious and blissful marriage, and the deep bond between partners. However, when only a single mandarin duck is mentioned, its symbolism can vary depending on cultural norms and contextual nuances; one such interpretation is loneliness and the search for connection—a solitary mandarin duck may signify a state of solitude, suggesting that the individual is seeking their other half or yearning to forge a meaningful emotional bond. This symbolic meaning is frequently employed in literature and art to convey characters’ inner worlds and emotional needs.

This model takes precisely this motif—the image of a single mandarin duck featured in a paper-cut window decoration—and uses it as the inspiration for a set of pen holders, each with a cross-section shaped like a regular octagon and available in three different sizes.

The large size has a diagonal outer dimension of 96 mm and a height of 120 mm;
The medium size has a diagonal outer dimension of 80 mm and a height of 100 mm;
The small size has a diagonal outer dimension of 64 mm and a height of 80 mm.

Please note that manual measurements may have slight deviations; the actual dimensions shall prevail.

The small and medium sizes are suitable as standard pen holders, while the large size can serve not only as a pen holder but also as a chopstick holder, cutlery organizer, or other functional storage solutions, combining aesthetic appeal with practical utility.

Through numerous printing tests, we’ve found that a print speed of 60 mm/s yields optimal results when working with silk-like filaments: speeds that are too fast can cause the filament’s silky sheen to fade, whereas speeds that are too slow result in excessively long print times, ultimately negating the benefits. If you’re printing with non-silk filaments, you can download the file and adjust the print speed accordingly before printing.
In addition, when using the octagonal spiral infill pattern, keep in mind that the frequent turns require reducing the flow rate to between 0.95 and 0.97; otherwise, the surface finish will be highly uneven. This is especially true when using multi-color filaments: lowering the flow rate and employing the octagonal spiral infill produces strikingly textured bottom and top surfaces.

We plan to release more fun, engaging, and practical designs in the future.
