Design Philosophy

This is an innovative catapult gyro design that leverages a coin as its center of gravity, enabling the gyro to maintain stable, long‑lasting rotation. With its simple yet highly creative structure, it brings fun and engaging experiences wherever you go.

 

Applications

This gyro seamlessly blends play and education: not only does it add joy to everyday life, but it also serves as a valuable tool in STEM education, helping children grasp the principles of motion and gravitational forces in physics.

Printing Recommendations

We recommend using PLA for printing, as the material’s rigidity and surface smoothness are critical to optimizing the gyro’s rotational performance.

For enhanced detail, we suggest a layer height of 0.2 mm.

Adjust the model’s scaling factor to accommodate coins of different diameters.

Assembly Instructions

After printing the components, gently insert them into place and rub them back and forth to remove any burrs from the part surfaces. The push rod has specific angular requirements—should you notice that the angle isn’t quite right after insertion, simply withdraw the push rod, rotate it by the appropriate angle, then reinsert it before securing the bottom push‑rod handle. To use, simply slide a coin into the circular slot, press the push rod, and release—it performs best when the angle is aligned perpendicular to the ground. By default, we’ve configured the model to work with a 25 mm diameter Chinese yuan coin; you can scale the model proportionally based on the size of the coin you have on hand. If you don’t have a coin handy, you can still print the gyro portion of the model directly from the print settings—resulting in excellent performance as well.
