Robotic Gripper – Upgraded Linear Slide Version – Large Gripping Fingers (with Servo Protection)

I. Design Inspiration

Building upon the first-generation slide‑type gripper, this version features wider and longer gripping fingers, an optimized dovetail linear slide guide structure, and a dedicated servo protection compartment. It accommodates larger workpieces and is commonly used as an end effector for competitive robotic arms and material‑handling robots, balancing structural strength with enhanced protective capabilities.

II. 3D Printing Process

The entire frame, extended fingers, and slide base are printed using PLA filament. A 0.15 mm clearance is maintained between mating surfaces of the slide to ensure smooth, jam‑free motion. All parts feature a uniform wall thickness of 2.2 mm for added rigidity, with no large overhangs; only minimal supports are added at the finger tips, resulting in a high yield of quality prints.

III. Structure and Function

The servo motor is enclosed within a custom protective housing, providing dust resistance and impact protection. Linkage mechanisms drive the slides in synchronized motion, ensuring that both jaws open and close in perfect parallel. The extended, widened gripping fingers increase contact area, reducing the risk of slippage when handling heavy loads. Standard mounting holes on the back allow for quick integration onto various robotic arms.
