The scarab beetle of ancient Egypt symbolizes rebirth, protection, and the solar cycle, while the majesty of the pharaohs, the reliefs in temples, and the mystique of hieroglyphs have always captivated me. Yet I wanted to dispel the stereotype that “ancient Egypt = distant and cold” and transform it into a warm presence that can accompany me in work and study. Thus, the pen holder emerged as the perfect medium: both functional and capable of housing symbolic motifs like the “scarab totem” and the “obelisk silhouette,” quietly resting on my desk corner every day.

✨ Design Details: Bringing “Ancient Civilization” to Life in a 3D Model

The heart of this pen holder is a fusion design that combines an obelisk with a scarab beetle:

• Main Structure: Inspired by the geometric form of Egyptian obelisks—wide base tapering upward—but given a more compact, squat profile to maintain a sense of solemnity without appearing bulky. The surface features a layered texture that mimics the chiseled finish of ancient Egyptian stone, along with a wavy relief at the base paying homage to the decorative cornices of temple façades—all painstakingly “carved” through 3D modeling.
• Scarab Totem: The golden scarab on the front is the visual centerpiece! During modeling, I added detailed limb textures and intricate engravings on its back, then enhanced the print with metallic paint to make it stand out like a “living artifact.” In ancient Egypt, the scarab was regarded as the embodiment of the sun god Khepri, symbolizing “the rising of the sun and the cycle of life.” Placed on the pen holder, it seems to safeguard every spark of creative inspiration during writing.
• Pen Holder Functionality: The top opening has been carefully tested to comfortably accommodate markers, pencils, and even short rulers; the interior walls have been smoothly finished to prevent scratching pen barrels. A widened base ensures stability even when the holder is fully loaded with pens—balancing practicality with aesthetic appeal.
