The double iron halberd served as the physical embodiment of Dian Wei’s epithet “the evil Lai of ancient times,” ranking alongside Xiang Yu’s Overlord Spear and Lu Bu’s Fangtian Halberd as one of the Three Kingdoms’ premier weapons.
In the Records of the Three Kingdoms, Dian Wei is only described as wielding a hand-held halberd, with no explicit mention of the double iron halberd; thus, his weapon was likely a short halberd or a hand-held spear.
Mid-range throwing: During battle, Dian Wei once hurled over ten short halberds, knocking one soldier off his horse with each throw, demonstrating remarkable accuracy in ranged attacks.
Close-quarters slashing: In the Battle of Puyang, he wielded his long halberd to strike left and right, shattering more than ten spears with a single blow, highlighting the halberd’s formidable ability to break through enemy formations.
