The nineteenth Cat Tarot card, also known as the eighteenth card, “The Moon,” can be customized with additional parts to turn it into a hanging plaque; it can serve as a bookmark; it can be used for divination; and by attaching a magnetic backing, it can even double as a refrigerator magnet—truly versatile!

The moon rises high in the night sky. A silhouette of a pensive face appears on the lunar surface, suggesting a sense of unease. The moon symbolizes the imaginative and associative realm of the mind. Its waxing and waning phases represent change. Beneath the moon, two cats look up, seemingly empathizing with its sorrow or perhaps asking it some question. Meanwhile, a lobster by the water’s edge seems deeply drawn to the moon, struggling to climb toward the water and following the winding stream in pursuit of its cherished dream. Apart from the moon and the lobster, the entire card design is largely symmetrical, divided by a meandering stream—a visual metaphor for the dual dimensions of life: ideals and reality. To realize its dreams, the lobster must navigate between these two realms; even a slight misstep can make it difficult to reach its goal. And that melancholy, troubled face appears to reflect the lobster’s inner state as it moves forward.

The imagery of the Moon card represents subconscious activity, ambiguity, and the uncovering of unsettling information. It also symbolizes confusion: the happier we are, the more we worry that misfortune may strike. Only by dispelling this confusion can we achieve positive outcomes. Often, we feel safe in familiar surroundings, turning our backs on the mysterious cosmos with its infinite expanse. The moon serves as a guiding light in this realm, illuminating the darkness and the nocturnal world. Though this domain may seem daunting, there is no need to fear it. In the right context, the moon can spark inspiration and reveal its magic, promising that everything you imagine can become yours.

Under the influence of the Moon card, the most common scenario is what we traditionally call “having a petty adversary.” Consequently, investing is strongly discouraged when the Moon appears. After all, no one would venture out late at night carrying a large box of cash to conduct transactions. Of course, if your dealings are part of the black market, that’s another matter entirely. For those seeking guidance, whether the figure depicted on the card truly reflects their own situation or merely represents an external influence is worth pondering. Regardless, it’s advisable not to act too impulsively, because “the mantis stalks the cicada while the sparrow waits behind.” At such times, other aspects of the consultation remain unclear, making it particularly unsuitable for decision-making. It’s best for the querent to think carefully before acting; if they can’t even think things through, it’s better to wait patiently than to rush into action.

However, there’s no need to panic upon drawing the Moon card. Even though the moon carries potential risks, they’re still less severe than those posed by the Tower card. Moreover, these perceived dangers may simply be illusions—mere results of overwrought anxiety on the part of the querent. Engaging in divination, staying up late reading, or other activities can all trigger the appearance of the Moon card. How exactly the Moon’s energy manifests depends on the individual’s circumstances and should be confirmed through direct consultation or by considering other cards in the spread. Even when expressed in a more negative form, the Moon only signals potential hazards rather than actual danger, leaving ample room for proactive measures.

As a side note, regarding the design details this time: in the initial version, all the shrubs were printed in solid yellow, which resulted in a monotonous, uniform coloration. To address this, I considered leveraging the transparency properties of the filament to create a gradient effect for the color details. However, due to the straight-line boundaries of the gradient, the final result ended up looking rather rigid. In the final version, different layers of shrubs were assigned distinct colors, yielding a more nuanced overall color palette. That said, this particular color gradient was achieved using Tuzhu PLA filament in Sun Yellow; with other filaments, varying degrees of transparency may produce different effects.

The card face is an original design, measuring 8 x 12 cm with a thickness of 2.8 mm.

For optimal results, we recommend using a 0.2 mm nozzle; however, a 0.4 mm nozzle will also print normally, as shown in the image below.

The filaments used are as follows:
If using AMS filament, standard printing settings are sufficient; if using non-AMS filament,

start printing in black,

switch to red at layer 10,

switch to Sun Yellow at layer 19,

and switch to white at layer 27.

The plan is to produce a total of 22 Major Arcana cards in this series, culminating in a custom box set. Stay tuned and follow our collection page ↓
