The petal-shaped multi-compartment design is both aesthetically pleasing and practical for organized storage;
the opening-and-closing mechanism mimics the blooming of a lotus flower—when the lid is opened, five independent golden “petal compartments” unfold, combining a sense of ritual with functionality, making it ideal for separately storing jewelry, candies, small parts, and other items.
Top-lid motif: a fusion of Western and Eastern elements inspired by the unicorn
The embossed pattern on the top lid serves as the pièce de résistance of the entire model, blending two cultural symbols:
Western fairy-tale symbolism: the unicorn itself is a symbol of purity, good fortune, and magic in Western culture, exuding a dreamy, whimsical aura and serving as a classic element in designs that appeal to young girls;
Integration of Eastern motifs: the designer has paired the unicorn with traditional Chinese auspicious patterns such as plum branches and auspicious cloud motifs, using gold-foil stamping to replicate the texture of traditional paper-cutting and gold-carving techniques. This collision between a Western fairy-tale image and Eastern classical aesthetics creates a design that is both enchantingly magical and richly imbued with Chinese cultural charm.
The golden petal-shaped storage compartments not only echo the pattern on the top lid but also resemble the stamens of a lotus flower, lending greater cohesion to the overall form. As a result, when the box is closed, it resembles a budding lotus bud, and when opened, it unfolds like a fully blossomed flower.
