The inspiration for this design stems from my deep fascination with the mysterious ancient Egyptian civilization—those temple reliefs, pharaonic masks, and scarab totems always evoke in me the image of them transcending time to become everyday companions on my desk.

Design Intent: Bringing “Ancient Symbols” into Daily Life

I aim to dispel the stereotype that “ancient Egyptian elements = solemn and distant,” transforming them into a desktop accessory that retains the cultural essence while remaining both functional and engaging. This pen holder is more than just a storage solution; it’s a miniature slice of culture that you can touch and interact with at any moment. When you pick up a pen, it’s as if you can almost feel the wind and sand along the banks of the Nile and the artisans’ reverent dedication as they carved these timeless symbols.

Design Details: From “Symbol” to “Three-Dimensional Narrative”

The core form of this pen holder is a simplified rendition of a pharaonic mask combined with a scarab totem:

• Main Contour: I’ve distilled the iconic lines of the pharaonic mask—the layered folds of the headdress, the sacred serpent relief on the forehead, and the stylized false beard—and reinterpreted them through smooth, rounded 3D modeling. This softens the sense of authority while infusing the piece with a charming, retro aesthetic.
• Scarab Totem: The prominently featured golden scarab on the front embodies ancient Egypt’s symbolism of rebirth and protection. I’ve enhanced its visual impact with a metallic-coated finish, ensuring that this vintage motif truly stands out on a modern desk.
• Pen Holder Structure: The wide, open top easily accommodates markers, pencils, and even short rulers, while the interior walls are smoothly finished to prevent scratching the pen barrels. The geometric patterns on the sides—reminiscent of the cornices and decorative friezes found in ancient Egyptian architecture—lend the piece an authentic, artifact-like quality without feeling overly ornate.
